Bar Tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) (Kuaka)

Most common of the migrant waders to NZ. Seen occasionally around the peninsula lagoons and harbour while awaiting the tidal changes, especially during summer. They are about the size of a pied stilt but heavier and brown/white colouring. Has extremely long bill with slight upwards curve.
