Little Shag (Phalacrocorax melanoleucos) (Kawau-paka)

This is the smallest and most common of the New Zealand Shags. The Little Shag prefers sheltered waters and usually hunts alone.

They roost in groups and are regularly seen standing on the piers and shoreline around the Otago Peninsula.
